 DAMSEL THE VT-SLIM WAY
« Thread Started on Aug 21, 2006, 1:31pm »

As I allready said in the topic on Damsel, I was so "clever" to save over my firststeps. SO here's what I did..

I started a blanc canvas in Artweaver.
Artweaver is freeware, you can get it here:
http://www.artweaver.de/index.php?en_version
size :1750X2290 at 250 DPI
I drew a very rough sketch in light gray, and on a new layer with a darker pencil,I drew the lines to keep.Never mind the line quality.

Then I made the reference picture a grayscale image by doing this:
image>adjustments>desaturate.
Using this as reference I blocked in the shades.Use a brush you feel comfy with.

I used the magic wand tool, you know the tool that looks like a..magic wand.
I set the tolerance to 22 to select the negative space around the face.I fill that with black.

My brush has some smudging or blending effect,so I use that to blend the hard lines of the fill with the head.

start a new layer and fill it with orange color. (R239 G159 B62)
Just leave the irises untouched.

After that I fill up the hair part. (R186 G149 B81 )

Change the opacity of that layer to 79 , and the layermode to "color".
This keeps your grayscale intact. The painting is going the right way from here, isn't it ?
I renamed the layer to "basecolors".You can do that by doubleclicking on the layername.

I add a new layer, and name it Blush.

after this I go back to painting the brighter highlights on things like the nose and nostrils.

I add a new layer, irises.

the color I use is R93.G169. B190 opacity of layer, 33.SO the grayscale will give you the perfect tint.

paint the highlights on the eyes ( new layer !).

THen I make a new layer called darks.I paint wherever needed some shadows, or extra contrasts. The color for it is R 102 G51 B18

When done I move the layer downwards, just below the irises. To do this use the downpointing arrow at the bottom of the layers palette.
